About Helium
Helium pays people to run wireless hotspots that provide coverage — originally a long-range network for low-power devices, later mobile service as well. It is the most-cited example of a decentralised physical infrastructure network, because unlike most of the category the hardware genuinely exists and genuinely carries traffic.
The economics have been argued about at length. Coverage rewards have been reduced repeatedly, early hotspot owners rarely recovered their hardware costs, and the question of whether usage or speculation drove deployment is a fair one.
The detail that matters for a transfer: Helium migrated from its own layer-1 to Solana in 2023. HNT is now an SPL token, and older material describing a separate Helium chain is out of date.
Sending and receiving HNT
- Before you send. HNT settles as an SPL token on Solana, so the payout needs a Solana address. The original Helium chain is no longer where this asset lives, and the wallet will need a little SOL to hold and move it.
- Set a refund address. It is the only route funds have back to you if a swap cannot complete — a deposit below the minimum, or one arriving after the quote window closed. See refund handling.
- Nothing is held for you. Deposits are forwarded, not stored, and the data kept is the amount and the two addresses — purged once the swap finalizes. The full picture is on the privacy page.

Yes, and it moves with network conditions, so the widget shows the live figure for whichever pair you pick before you confirm. Minimums exist to keep on-chain costs a small fraction of the swap rather than swallowing it. There is no maximum.
Which network does HNT settle on here?
Solana, as a SPL token. The same ticker exists on several chains and the versions are not interchangeable — a transfer to an address on the wrong network cannot be recovered by us or by the exchange.
