About The Sandbox
The Sandbox is a virtual world in which parcels of LAND are non-fungible tokens and SAND is the currency used to buy them, trade assets and pay for experiences. The supply of LAND is capped, which is the mechanism the whole economy rests on.
It was among the most visible projects of the 2021 metaverse cycle, and the honest position is that activity fell a long way from that peak along with the rest of the category. It is still built, still running, and still trading.
SAND is an ERC-20 on Ethereum, so it settles under Ethereum’s twelve-second blocks and moving it costs ETH.
Sending and receiving SAND
- Before you send. SAND settles here as an ERC-20 on Ethereum. It also circulates on other networks at addresses of the same 0x shape, so confirm the receiving wallet is on Ethereum itself.
- Set a refund address. It is the only route funds have back to you if a swap cannot complete — a deposit below the minimum, or one arriving after the quote window closed. See refund handling.
- Nothing is held for you. Deposits are forwarded, not stored, and the data kept is the amount and the two addresses — purged once the swap finalizes. The full picture is on the privacy page.

Which network does SAND settle on here?
Ethereum, as a ERC-20 token. The same ticker exists on several chains and the versions are not interchangeable — a transfer to an address on the wrong network cannot be recovered by us or by the exchange.
