About USD Coin
USDC is a dollar token issued by Circle against reserves held in cash and short-term treasuries, with regular attestations. The ERC-20 version on Ethereum is the original and the most widely integrated.
Its compliance posture is the trade-off. Reserves are transparent and redemption is dependable, and the same machinery that makes that possible lets the issuer freeze any address on request. USDC has been frozen in practice, not just in theory.
Circle discontinued USDC on Tron in 2024, which is why no TRC-20 variant is quoted here. You can exchange USDC ERC-20 anonymously here: swap USDC without KYC, though the issuer can still freeze an address, which no choice of exchange changes.
Sending and receiving USDC
- Before you send. This is the Ethereum ERC-20 contract; the receiving address must be an Ethereum address.
- Set a refund address. Funds go back there automatically if a swap cannot complete — a deposit below the minimum, or one arriving after the quote window closed. Without one, a refund needs a message to support instead. See refund handling.
- Nothing is held for you. Deposits are forwarded, not stored, and the data kept is the amount and the two addresses — purged once the swap finalizes. The full picture is on the privacy page.
Buy USDC ERC-20 without an account
The usual way to buy USD Coin is a centralized exchange: open an account, pass identity verification, link a bank account or a card, and pay in fiat currency. It works, and every step of it is recorded against your name — the purchase, the payment details and the address you withdraw to. If you already hold any other coin there is a shorter route: convert it into USDC here.
