About IoTeX
IoTeX is built around the idea that physical devices — sensors, trackers, cameras — need an identity and a way to prove what they recorded, without a manufacturer’s server standing in the middle. Its blockchain carries device registration and attestation alongside ordinary transfers, and IOTX pays for all of it.
Blocks come roughly every five seconds. The chain is EVM-compatible, so Ethereum tooling works against it, and it has its own native address format alongside that.
Whether machine data belongs on a public ledger is a genuinely open question, and this is one of the few networks with real hardware deployed against the answer.
Sending and receiving IOTX
- Before you send. IoTeX has two address formats for the same account: a native one beginning `io1` and an Ethereum-style `0x` form. Your wallet will show one of them. Send to the format the wallet gave you, and make sure it is watching IoTeX rather than Ethereum — the 0x form is indistinguishable from an Ethereum address.
- Set a refund address. It is the only route funds have back to you if a swap cannot complete — a deposit below the minimum, or one arriving after the quote window closed. See refund handling.
- Nothing is held for you. Deposits are forwarded, not stored, and the data kept is the amount and the two addresses — purged once the swap finalizes. The full picture is on the privacy page.
