About Nano
Nano abandons the shared blockchain. Each account has its own chain that only its owner can add to, and a transfer is a pair of entries — a send on one chain, a receive on the other — with representatives voting to settle any conflict. Because nothing has to be packed into a shared block, there is no block interval to wait for and settlement takes well under a second.
There are no fees at all. Not low fees: none. That is the design’s whole claim, and it is the property that makes Nano interesting as a way to move value rather than to hold it.
The honest counterpoint is spam. A network with no fees has no economic brake on transaction volume, and Nano has been flooded before — its answer is a small proof-of-work per transaction and prioritisation by account balance, which mitigates rather than removes the problem. The ledger is also fully public, so cheap and instant does not mean private.
Sending and receiving XNO
- Before you send. A Nano address begins `nano_` and is 65 characters. It replaced the older `xrb_` prefix, and the same account works under either — but send to the `nano_` form your wallet shows you.
- Set a refund address. It is the only route funds have back to you if a swap cannot complete — a deposit below the minimum, or one arriving after the quote window closed. See refund handling.
- Nothing is held for you. Deposits are forwarded, not stored, and the data kept is the amount and the two addresses — purged once the swap finalizes. The full picture is on the privacy page.
