About Bitcoin Cash
Bitcoin Cash split from Bitcoin in August 2017 over how to handle more transactions. Bitcoin kept small blocks and pushed volume to later layers; Bitcoin Cash raised the block size so the transactions stayed on the chain itself. Everything before the split is shared history, and every block since is separate.
The block target is still about ten minutes, so BCH confirms at Bitcoin’s pace. Fees are a small fraction of a cent, which is the practical difference the larger blocks buy.
The ledger is fully transparent, exactly as Bitcoin’s is. The fork changed the throughput argument, not the privacy one.
Sending and receiving BCH
- Before you send. BCH addresses come in two formats: the modern CashAddr, often written with a `bitcoincash:` prefix, and a legacy format identical in shape to a Bitcoin address. That overlap is the dangerous one — an address copied from a Bitcoin wallet will look like a valid BCH destination and the funds will not be recoverable. Use the address your Bitcoin Cash wallet gives you.
- Set a refund address. It is the only route funds have back to you if a swap cannot complete — a deposit below the minimum, or one arriving after the quote window closed. See refund handling.
- Nothing is held for you. Deposits are forwarded, not stored, and the data kept is the amount and the two addresses — purged once the swap finalizes. The full picture is on the privacy page.
